air pump removal

My 84 vette came with all the pollution gone except for the air pump. I am debating whether to try and put everything back to normal (big bucks I would guess) or to put an idler pulley in place of the air pump. I am guessing that the air pump gets intake air from the air filter and am wondering if there would be an increase in fuel economy and hp with the air pump not taking air from the air filter ???

Not really horsepower gain but it will clean up your engine compartment. I would get the 3 piece pully system in polished aluminum from ecklers. 120 dollars and THAT kit adds 10 horsepower. I am going to try to save for that. Very nice and will add a shiney touch to the underhood while increasing power and fuel economy.

Well, any load you take off the belt drive system will give a slight hp increase, but not not enough to realize it.

Try .2 hp on the dyno. 10hp from removing a pully that turns almost free anyways? Ha, yeah right!

I was saying replace ALL the pulleys with the ones from march. They CLAIM ten horsepower as they turn your accessories SLOWER. The air pump is JUST cometic look. No horsepower gain. You will save a LITTLE bit of weight but I would not bother with it at all.
