Battery Drain

I have a battery drain issue with my 1987 coupe. I tried the info provided in the forum by checking from pos. post to pos. clamp with voltmeter and removing one fuse at a time, but I showed the same voltage as the battery is showing. I removed one fuse at a time and checked the voltage, then replaced that fuse and removed another one and checked, until I did all of them, but I still got the same voltage each time. Any other ideas, anyone? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

RE: Battery Drain

Try pulling the radio fuse if it is a factory radio. Some radios have a clock in it and a anti theft deterrent module whichdraws a minute amount of voltage when the car is not on.I seen people wire aftermarket radios wrong keeping the voltage drawingon allthe time instead when the ignition is turned on. Anyways the draw is very small and would show over night or over a couple days its not going to show on a volt meter right away. good luck.

Catman try removing the wire for the alternator and see what you have and also the starter wires. be careful with the loose wires. Also have you had the battery tested for a shorted cell?
That would be a free test at most parts stores.
good luck

A 12v test light between the terminals works better or better yet an amp probe if you can find one. Under about 1/4 amp draw is acceptable where as voltmeter will show 12v which can fool you.

Thanks, I'll have it tested and also do the other checks suggested. I knew ya'll would come through with things I haven't thought of. Once again, thanks.
