battery drain also
 

i have a 96 coupe. new battery, new alternator twice, replaced l/h light motor. i disconnected the battery at the neg. side placed a volt meter between cable and post. used mili amps. i got this advise from a corvette specialist over the phone. i get a big draw from the interior light fuse when i pull it. he said the computer will draw normally around 24-25. i get 34-35 before i pull the interior light fuse. now get this with the battery disconnected, i open the door and the courtesy lights come on volt meter disconnect from the circuit also. they go out normaly open and close the door a couple of more times and they still function as if the battery was connected back up.[sm=dontgetit.gif], they do however shut off normaly by the timer.is there a relay that is acting like a capacitor that is storing current. if so where is it located? is the timer going bad?

the normal time, i guess 30seconds or less. i tried it about 3 times. somehow a curcuit is completing. is there a seperate type of source a backup of somekind for the security system? i do know that under normal operation with battery connectedthe courtesy lights come on when you unlock the doors with the key. and they go out after a few seconds,if you don't turn the key to start the car. otherwise when you do turn the key to start the car they go out immediately. i don't have ( i think ) a means of keyless entry to unlock the doors with a security bob. all i have is the chip on the key itself. the owners manual talks abouta bob, when i bought the car it didn't come withone. so i don't know if it is equiped for one.as i said i get a drop of current when i pull the 20amp fuse for the interior lights. 20amps seams like a big fuse for interior lights unless it is functioning more than lights in the same circuit. any leads would be a big help. thanks

That means the light delay timer is running on a battery in the computer; obviously NOT the main battery, since it is dis-connected.

But I don't see a separate power source in the haynes schematic (the circles I made for another thread problem):

A 20 amp fuse might not be too big for the delay shut-off circuit, considering how much stuff runs besides the lights, after motor shutdown.

It has got to be that circuit doing the drain, with a failed timer module... I don't know where that device is to test.

well that makes sence where the other power is coming from. according to the drawing, looks like the lights are all junctioning at the main fuse block. the 20 amp fuse is what suppose to be in it. the block is located near the battery and the cap indicates that's what size it is. thanks for the info. maybe i can go from there to a specialist
