Blue Puff Of Smoke....

I have noticed, during this past week, that when I start my L98 up in the morning only, a good sized puff of blue smoke comes out the tail pipes. It doesn't happen during any further daytime starts and I'm wondering if the rings are a little bunged up and need to be cleaned up. I use 100% synthetic oil with 198K on the engine, use Sunoco 94 gas, and have a gas regulator in place with a reading of 42. I also change the oil after every 5K. Any thoughts on this, please?

RE: Blue Puff Of Smoke....

My car did that before I bought it (from discussions with previous owner). The 350 is prone to having slightly leaky valve seals, and these symptoms you describe are classic for this. I suspect your valve seals are a little pooped. Having those redone shouldn't be that big a deal, but once again, I'll step aside and let someone more knowledgeable add more here for you.....

As a matter of note, the seals were replaced in my car before I took title. No blue smoke anymore at cold startup at all.

I found this web site that explains how to replace the valve seals http://vettenet.org/vlvseals.html
