Brake question

I bought my 94 just over a year ago. I love the car but have one issue. The brakes, they squeek like no other when they get warmed up... what causes this?My car has thec5 zo6 brake upgrade (already installed before i bought), i just dont understand why they squeek and what the cause is? It really makes me feel dumb when coming up to stops and my car is nice and shiney yet squeeking all over the place.

Everything is recently new, the pads look fine and so do the rotors, any help would be awesome.

RE: Brake question

Is the Parking brake adjusted a little to tight? I had the same prob on my 86 and I just losend up the parking brake a little according to the Manual and it worked. But this is when I first replaced the rotors and pads. Youll figure it out I have faith!:)

RE: Brake question

What cause brake squeal can be attributed to a number of things. Common issues usually are a buildup of brake dust imbedded in the pads, semi metallic brake pads, glazed rotors. I would have the rotors turned and replace pads with a good quality ceramic brake pads, which cut down on brake dust and squeal.

I bow to MECH259's wisdom and agree entirely with him on this one.

Cermaic pads do cut down on dust but they are expensive and eat up rotors faster![&:]

RE: Brake question

Actually, they make the rotors last longer, the semi-metallic will shorten the life of rotors quicker.

You sure? I learned that the ceramics wear out faster wear out the rotors faster and are more expensive. I used the NAPA ones one time and they went out fast![&:]

Install them everyday and have less problems than with semi's.

I put on some ceramics on my Mustang GT I had awhile back... they were great. Good stopping, and never any brake dust on the wheels. Never had an issue with longevitiy of my rotors, either.

I'm putting a set on our Corvette as soon as she needs 'em.

RE: Brake question

Do you know of a specific brand that may be better than another. Do you think the NAPA brand is good?

RE: Brake question

We always use Carquest brand, but most any will do. Wagner and Raybestos both make good pads.
