Can someone help? Really important

I am selling my Father's vette and I believe it is a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette LT1.

People are telling me that it cannot be a LT1. I has to be a TPI.

I am trying to find the owner's manual because I know he had it but over time I have no idea where to look to find it. The car has just been sitting. I did take a picture of the inside of the car though. This is the image I found that said LT1. Is this just a part that someone replaced prior to my father owning it??

Unless the engine has been swapped out, it's an L98 TPI. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the LT1's came out around 92.

Got an under hood pic? That will tell real quick. Someone might have put that tag there instead of the right one. That front end and rear end are early model C4's.

Regardless of whether it's a really anLT1 or an L98, it looks like a nice car from the picture, and assuming it runs as well as it looks, you should have no trouble selling it. I think rshiver is correct - the LT1's came out in 92. I have a 91 (L98 with 250 hp). The LT1upped the hp from 250 to 300. The "TPI" part refers to "tuned port injection" and was standard on both the L98 and LT1 engines.

If it's really an L98 and you're worried about people being confused when you're selling it, you can swap that plate out on the ashtray cover with the correct one. Mid-America has them for about $15:

Good luck!!

Mech 259 is right. A picture of the engine would really help. Open the hood and take a look at the top middle of the engine. Are there large curved tubes running towards the sides of the engine? Yes= L98. No= LT-1, I think.

Is it Aluminum Heads or Cast Iron Heads? Can you tell from the pictures?

RE: Can someone help? Really important

Cast Iron heads. Aluminum heads have center bolt valve covers, steel have edge bolt. The 86 cast iron head tag should say 230 hp and 330 lbs torque. I know, because I have one. The aluminum head engine has 235 hp.[8D]
