Coolant type
 

Going to be doing cooling syst. flush on my '94 LT1 - I know I have to "bleed" the system, but is there anything else special about this task? How about coolant, can I usd the red "extended life" type or must I stick with eythl glychol? (The jug on the E.L. type says "GM 1995 & later")

If you have an aluminum core radiator, you should use the Dexcool (orange) coolant. Be sure and flush the block with clear water, then install the Dexcool. Green antifreeze will overtime react with aluminum core radiators and create a small voltage in the antifreeze that will weaken radiators and aluminum heater cores. Plus the Dexcool is more enviroment friendly. [8D]

Look at the fins on the radiator, also aluminum core radiators have plastic side tanks where copper core have metal tanks.

You better be sure you flush it really, really good if you going to put Dexcool in it. If it has the green stuff in it now and you cross contaminate that with Dexcool you will be very sorry. Turns to a clay like slime that clogs up nicely.

Use deionized water or you get the electrolysis effect on an aluminum radiator.Dont just use tap water to fill it with.
