Diagonistic readers for 1992

:)Ok; Being new to Corvette (My first) I keep reading about you guyscheckingthe codes on your cars. I have a 1992 Lt1, 6 speed, with 32k (original) on it,that nothing is wrong with, butI was thinking about purchasing a code reader for future use (shouldI need one), but all the code readersI find are for 1996 andup, can the codes on a 1992 even be checked and with what. I know you guy's are going to get a laugh out of this, but you can't learn if you don't ask questions? Thanks:)

You're not going to believe this....
You need to invest in a paper clip. That appears to be the extent of required equipment. Once you overcome your reluctance to stick a bent paper clip into the diagnostic plug...you're on your way to reading codes.
On my 86....and I think to 93...its the upper right corner two contacts that need to be shorted with the bent paper clip.

Look back over previous threads for some excellent advise here...including a link to interpreting the codes.

Thanks for the info, I was finally able to use this method for checking codes this morning, if i did it correctly it showed no codes, the service engine soon light just kept flashing. that's a good thing right?

On my 86 .. The light flashes a "12" which I think is just to let you know the system is ready and working properly. After the "12" it flashes whatever stored codes the diagnostic system has. If yours just keeps flashing .. you're gonna have to wait till somebody more knowledgeable than me can offer some help. Sorry

You are right on the 12, but actually code 12 means it is seeing no ignition signal, which is true because the car is not running.
