getting hot at red lights
 

I notice if i get stuck at a long red light , my temp gauge gets up to 240 is this normal for vettes , while driving im always about 190 is this normal?? its a 1995 (analog

Your year is not indicated. Is 240* analog or digital?

Vettes are trash vacuums ! Mine was getting hot the other day and here's how you check it. Either raise car and get under it or remove entire air inlet and examine air conditioner condenser coil. Mine had a huge Cheetos bag and leaves and grass in front of it.

Next look where your air conditioner lines go through your shroud and with a light you can examine in front of your radator.

I had more grass and leaves so I removed the radator and cleaned out both with low pressure air and water.

If it's not too bad you can take a long cardboard tube from a Christmas wrap roll and tape it to your shop vac nozzle or car wash vac and gently go in and suck it out.

Next if you don't have trash you need to examine your fans operation , Accually I would do it first but let it idle with hood open see if your fan comes on by 220 degrees.

Then turn on A/C switch and both fans should come on. If only one or none you need worked on.

Radiators should be flushed every three years and if you switched from orange to green coolant it needs done right away cause they sometimes jell when mixed.

Still got problems get your system pressure checked . A couple places you can examine , when cool take off your radiator cap and examine the rubber gasket and check spring for tension.

On the expansion tank where you removed the cap [ should have been hard to do if the spring is good ] there are two little lines that run from it to the engine and radator.
If you can wriggle those things they have broke loose and are leaking pressure.

I had my radator taken out and cleaned inside thoroughly ! That should be done too if it has not been flushed regulary .

Got you some work to do or find a radator shop. Corvettes ain't that special or hard to work on in the cooling department.

my fans dont kick on until about 260 drgrees

Looks like either your fan sensor or gauge sensor is wonky. Somehow find a known accurate temp gauge and find out what's really happening. Then change the bad one,260 is a little on the high side for the fans to come on!
190 is a pretty good normal running temp,even 200 would be ok,240 is a little high even setting still,the fans should come on at 220 as you know.

i have read that if fans come on with AC then relays are fine,, so im good there, have also read fan sensors are only about $20,, I just have to locate it on the engine , can any one help me find it I belleive its on the water pump, any one have a diagram or somthing to show me it??
