Hot Fuel

I have a 1986 Corvette Ragtop. The car was sitting for about 3 years in a garage. It has 30K miles on it . Was driving down the road and it was running fine. All of a sudden it lost all power. I started it back up and it stumbled around 300 RPM and then died when I touched the gas. Finally got it running and drove for about 10 minutes and it died again. Took it to my mechanic cause I had no idea what was going on cause I had spark and Fuel to the Rail. When he checked it My fuel was getting really hot as well as there was air bubbles in My fuel.I changed the Fuel filter and still am having the problem. Any idea what this could be we are all stumped on this one.

Thanks

Have you checked fuel pressure? Sounds like fuel pump is getting weak.

Fuel pressure is fine. Had my mechanic check it and he said it was fine. Someone told me that It was my gas cap which was causing the problems. I changed it and now im getting pressure when I open it up. Not to sure when else to do. Any other suggestions would be great. I cant complain I bought the car for 2800 dollars so I dont mind putting money into it. This is my first vette and I love it.

Thanks

You probably got the wrong cap, you need a vented cap and yours is probably non-vented. Did your man check the pressure when the engine was hot? Did he check fuel quality? If the car set for quite a while, might have injector probs (like stopping up). Need to perform an injector balance test. I presume there are no codes?

I had the origional cap on the car so i went to canadian tire and bought the vented one for it. He did test it when it was hot. The fuel quality is Premium fuel . Since i bought the car ive put about 2000 miles on it and this just started. The injectors are all brand new. There are no error codes as well.

Ok, by quality I mean contaminents. Other than these things, I would need to see some scan tool readings. A couple of things to try, unplug MAF sensor to see if the performance improves any, or tap on the MAF while idleing to see if car stumbles.

I drained my tank and filled it with premium as well as a fuel system treatment. The car runs like brand new. Thanks Mech I think it must of been some bad gas.

Welcome!

There have been some interesting discussion on here about using SeaFoam. Especially if your car hadd=s been sitting for a long time.

Read as much as you can for all of the tips and tricks before using it though;)

Just a thought...

I agree.:)Try it thru your gas tank, pcv valve and brake booster line. Kind of expensive in my mind though but it seemed to help my car a little....Im just to chicken to put it thru the brake booster line.

B86V, I'm sure it works with all the folks on here that have done it but I'm like you and scared i'de probably screw something up. I would really like to try it though. maybe some day.

Agree completely with the hesitation you guys speak about[&:]

I was all set to try it then told my mechanic about it and he said to use the gas tank only because it can actually eat at the seals etc...[:@]

I don't know what to think now...[sm=sigh.gif]

Maybe mech259 can set us straight[8D]

I asked mech and he said he didnt have any experience. with it. I believe everyone on here who has tried it has had good experiments but pouring a liquid into the motor with the risk of hydrolocking it....Uh uh....[:'(]

My vette set up for about 4 months and even with fuel stabilizer in it the gas went bad and the car smoked and stumbled like a diesel.
As a matter of fact I was driving around burning out the funky premo gas and stopped at a light and a guy hollered at me that he didn't know they put diesels in Corvettes.
After I put in fresh gas and some redline additive it was once again its old LT1 self .
