L98 vs. LT1
I always thought the LT1 engine was more powerful than the L98 engine on the 91 corvette I just bought. According to a web site which compared factory stock 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times, they are the same. Both get 0-60 in 5.3 and 13.9 for the 1/4 mile. Which engine is better?

RE: L98 vs. LT1
Hello,my friend. They're both great engines, but the LT-1 has the advantage of less weight, more horsepower, and better fuel economy. It also has a few newer details than the L-98,such as reverse-flow cooling, the Opti-Spark,and so on.But they're both fairly easy to modify and work on if you get the right parts for them. The fastest I've seen an L-98 car go to 60 is 5.1 secs.,the fastest LT-1 was 4.9.In the quarter I believe the LT-1 is in the low to mid 13's while the L-98 was a high 13 to low 14 second car.Hope you enjoy your Vette!!

RE: L98 vs. LT1
The L98 has more torque and might get an LT-1 out of the hole but it will run out of breath while the LT-1 has longer torque curve and will keep on breathing until it noses out the L98 in the last1/16th to 1/8thof a mile. BTW, Car and Driver tested the 1992 at 5.0 flat 0-60 and 13.6 in the 1/4 in their Dec. 1991 issue.

I hear yah, that is where the funs is at. The power from the L98 is definitely enough for me, although I wonder what it would be like to put a supercharger on this thing. Wish I could afford it...it would cost as much as my car to put one of those things on.

I found several places on the internet that sells them. Looks like they run 4 to 6k. Can't seem to find one on ebay though.

RE: L98 vs. LT1
If you did put a supercharger on a L-98 would you not have to upgrade all ALL the parts. I mean the transmission is naturally weak from my understanding, the heads and exaust along with a cam are restrictive and then you will definatley need a new rearend. D44 I presume along with some havy gears and drag radials for street use? Im just guessing on this but can the stock L-98 take that much power with no mods or small amount of mods?
