LED Replacement Results:

LED Lights are neat.
If you find a good replacement LED, you can increase the Lighting capacity (Lumens) and reduce the power load on your electrical system.
Less Power also means Less Heat.
Heat can cause your plastic lens and other parts to change color over time.

The big problem is trying to find an LED that is Bright enough to replace your existing Incandescent bulb.
Most LED's sold at local stores are VERY dim.

Before you replace your Bulb, you need to know three things about that bulb.
Working Voltage.
Power in Watts (Power is also HEAT, lower watts, less heat).
Lumens ( The brightness of the bulb).

You will also need to know the same three specifications about the LED.
Most LED advertisements will NOT list the "Lumens".

LED Rule #1
If you can't find Lumens, then DON’T BUY THE LED!

LED Rule #2
If you can't find Lumens, then DON’T BUY THE LED!

LED Rule #3
Save your Receipt so you can get your money back.

Other LED Stuff:

Incandescent bulbs generate a light pattern similar to a 360x300 degree pattern.
Most LED's make a very directional pattern of light.
Most Lenses are designed for Incandescent bulbs and may not aim the light as well when a directional LED is installed.

As a general suggestion, try to go 10% to 20% More Lumens when you switch to an LED to compensate for the poor LED illumination patterns.
Never use an LED with a wattage rating Higher than your existing Incandescent bulb rating.

Some LED devices are polarized. Which means they only work in 1 direction (Dome lights). Just revers the LED and it should work. Reversers polarization will not hurt a properly build LED.

Fog Light LED experiment:

I felt like experimenting with converting my Fog lights from Incandescent to LED's.
On paper the 896 Bulb/LED specifications looked good.
The Goal of a good Fog light design, is to keep most of the light below eye level and on the ground.

The new LED had only two elements that light up.
The LED was brighter. However, the illumination pattern was very poor.
The original 896-Bulb would light up the ground immediately in-front of the car [single bulb active]
See image, PS_Fog_Bulb.

The LED would cast a very wide and high pattern in all directions, [single led active]
See image, DS_Fog_LED.

Name: MAXGTRS 72W 881 5730 Chip White LED Fog Light
Bulb Type: 896
Watts: 36 per bulb.
Lumens: 1600 per bulb.

Original Incandescent 896
Watts: 37 per bulb.
Lumens: 950 per bulb.

LED Replacement for Bulb 896. Only two LED's. Maybe next time Ill try 20 LED's per unit

Courtesy Light Upgrade:

My C4 Convertible uses 5 bulbs of type 562 (loop style).
Two Under dash to light up your feet.
Two in the rear storage area.
One in the center console.

This upgraded to LED was successful. I got what I wanted.
A little more brightness and Less Power/Heat.
The Lumens increase was from 75 to 100.

Original Incandescent #562
Watts: 10 per bulb.
Lumens: 75 per bulb.

LED #562
Watts: Less than 1 watt per bulb.
Lumens: 100 per bulb
Advertised as 400 Lumens for a 4-pack of bulbs.
You must divide the package count into the Lumens to get a more realistic value.

Questions:
How do you remove the two courtesy lights in the convertible rear storage area?
I do not want to just start Prying the covers.

Console Box: This picture was taken without flash or any background lighting using the new LED replacement. It is brighter than the bulb. Under the light cover is a "black" reflector. I painted the reflector "White". I am sorry I do not have a before picture.

Passenger side floor light: If you look closely you may notice the floor of the Passage side is a little brighter than on the Driver side. Only the Passenger side has the LED courtesy like for the floor area. The Driver side is running the stock bulb.
