Looking to buy 92 Black Coupe, questions prior....

Hello everyone here in the fine world of Vettes!!!

I am looking at buying a 6sp. 92 Black coupe. It has the z07, adj, susp, and pretty much every thing you could get as a 92. SOOO..is there anything I should be weary of on this car? I have driven it around town and at autobahn speeds.. I have found no shimmies with brakes or wheels at speed.. The engine looks clean, runs great and smooth. No leaking spotted except for minor around valve covers (very minor) Tires new, 89k mileage, new clutch from corvette authorized mechanic, and flywheel too...interior is beautiful guys and gals, no broken bits, all electrics work great, leather seats dont even have one crack anywhere. No mods done to this car yet either.

My question is this though, I found a small amount of cracked paint(cream brownish color) on the valve covers, is this clear coat coming off due to age and heat? or a sign of being overheated at one time? The gentlemen wants 12k o.b.o and I am ready to start bidding at 10k...I am stationed in germany and vettes arent the easiest find, so a little above Blue Book is acceptable for me.

What you guys think, here she is...

Paint on the valve cover a concern??? Not hardly.

If you're gonna' spend 10k+, get it checked out thoroughly. Put a comp guage on all 8 holes and check the squeeze, or better yet, get a leakdown test done.

How's the weatherstripping? Interior door panels?

I already asked about the comp checks on the car, he says he has never had it done (of course) and this was my thinking as well, spending this much that NEEDS to be done. The weather striping is all intact, hatch rubber is new as is lower driver and pass. window rubber. The targa rubber is complete, and looks good with only a smal tiny area above driver where a shole formed and they filled it with RTV to stop it.

So what is a more reasonable number to act on, 9500? Even though this car has all the bells and whistles, and the clutch repaired, new tires, etc...

Thank you so much,

Robert

I have a 92 auto that I bought in March of 2006 with 130K on the ticker. It wasn't in near the shape you are saying that car is and I paid $8500 for it. I think you may have a pretty good deal there.

12k seems a little too high imo. For that kind of money i'd save up a little more for a 96 Lt-4
You can get a 92 in decent condition for as little as 6k (atleast where I live). Personally, I wouldn't pay a penny more than $9,000 for that car.

My brother just bought a 95 about 3 months ago and paid 8500.00 for it (bought and drivin in California). Has 89,000 going on 90,000 miles. Its in decent shape. the paint is fading in certain areas and the interior has a lot of seat wear, but other than that, the car seems to run fine and the tranny (auto) shifts nice. Stock sterio, cd doesnt work, but sounds strong. All around a nice car. But compaired to my 89, his can't hold a candle to it!:D

Also paid 8500.00 for my 1989 in august 2005 with 71,000 miles.

If you are stationed in Germany, I would imagine that there isn't a whole lot of selection. So I guess I would go with the one you are looking at. Sounds like it's in good shape from what you are saying. If you can get the guy down to $11000 that would be good. I bet it would cost almost $1000 to ship one from the states to where you're at. Go for it, I say.
