Looking to buy my first Vette.

Been interested in a 92-96. So Im looking for any advice I can get. What should I look for as far as possible problems ect... Should I stay away from the dealers? I actually live near a very large Corvette dealership and going up in a couple days to see what they have in their showroom.

What should I expect to pay for those years? Dont want to get bent over...

Thanks

we just bought a 96 with 38k miles in real nice condition. Paid 17 grand which after looking for a year was the best car I could find in my area for the money. We even looked at ram air trans ams which were more money in the sam condition.

Seems a bit high, but you got a low mileage vehicle. BTW, where ya from?

Hi:

I own a '92 six speed coupe. If you are looking for a '92 thru '96 I would stay away from the '92's and '93's unless they are low mileage and you can confirm the engine has never been washed with water. The "opti Spark" which is the ignition system, was a new design for '92 and is very susceptible to damage if water gets on it by washing the engine or the water pump leaking. It is a very costly repair, up to $700. They resolved the problem (sort of) by '94.

The other thing you should know is that all coupes will shake on rough roads when you remove the targa top. Convertibles have extra cross- bracing on the frame that the coupes do not. The Targa top is integral to the car stiffness and once removed you discover what I call the C4 coupe "dirty little secret". The Bose radios and CD players are notorious for problems also, however there is a great repair facility in Houston that will repair your radio/CD for about $160. Otherwise the cars are great. They run like beasts and handle fantastic. Good luck with your search.

Hey, thanks for the info. I appriecate it greatly!

I've also been looking at the C5's, 97 and a 98's which seem to be just out of my price range. For a sec there I was entertaining the thought of trading my 04 Tacoma DC in for a newer vette. It's kinda hard to fit certain stuff in a Vette and I need my truck everyonce in awhile for going to lowes ect for building materials for weekend projects. ;)
