Good day Gentlepeople,

Like others I have the periodic LTPWS light. Cleaning the backside of the wheels seems to have resolved this issue but now I'm considering new wheels (C6 style, chrome).

The question is, what if the new wheels don't have the sensor? Does one just remove the offending light bulb? Will this have an effect on the rest of the system?

Car is a 91, 6 speed.

Thoughts folks?

With no sensors you shud get a LTPWS warning light. Removing the bulb is your best option short of installing the old sensors. Removing the bulb will have no effect on any other system. The sensors have a pizo battery that generate it's own power when rotating , if I remember correctly.

I'm guessin' that the sensors have a rubber diaphragm as part of the sensor mechanism. If the diaphragm doesn't seat well, air down the tire, get a drop of either armor all, or trans X, under the diaphragm. It will make the diaphragm seat better against the electrical contact.

If you do the new wheel thing, put a by-pass into each sensor, to indicate proper pressure.

The computer give creedence to the strangest parameters (sensor readings)of your vehicle, and makes adjustments thereby. See:

The CAN networks now are 10 times faster now on the newest cars and trucks. Ford diesels already are using CAN (Controller Area Network). Lighting fast communication and more money for us to spend on scan tools and software. :(

If a plug-in, or screw-inbypass isn't already on the market from the wheel manufacturers, you'd have to wire directly together the two leads to the sensor. Unless someone else knows for sure that the ECM doesn't use the reading of tire pressure to modify any other function...

Basically, the sensor just reports if pressure is below 25lbs to the receiver module and I don't see any way of shorting together wires since there are no external wires to short together. The receiver module constantly "listens" for low pressure signal from the in wheel sensor.

Probably the same way a valve seats itself inside a cylinder head, only with a rubber diaphragm, or similar mechanism.

If it don't seat good, no contact, -> ltpsw!

Ah, yep, got it.

Well, I've done away with the LTPWS light by removing the bulb. No more LTPWS issues.

Now, I'm going to drop the tp in one and see what happens. I would love for the individual systems to work still and suspect they shall.
