MAP Sensor

What exactly does a MAP Sensor do. After i got all of this work done to my car, i was told that if my Check Engine light comes on, then it is more than likely my MAP Sensor and that it will ned to be replaced pretty soon. But he said all i had to do was turn the car off and turn it back on to get the light to go off. Sounds like someone likes to Jerry-Rig stuff. Anyway, thanks in advance for the help.

RE: MAP Sensor

MAP stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure. It measure manifold pressure for fuel control. It is one of the most important sensors for driveability in your car. Just because you turn ignition off and on will not do the trick. Check vacuum to MAP, should be same as manifold vacuum.

RE: MAP Sensor

Anyone can get sensors to "magically" turn off. Doesn't solve the problem though:D:D:D

RE: MAP Sensor

You can short the 2 pins together on the diagnostic connector and the SE light will blink codes, 3 times each. Pay no attention to code 12, which you will get first.
