New Guy

Howdy,
I've been reading on this message board for a while. Now I need some help. I have an "87 convert that runs like crap when it will start. I also have a '40 Oldsmobile that I want to put C4 suspension under. I can't bring myself to cut up the '87, but I did find an '84 coupe with a bad motor and a recovery title for $2,000 or offer. It is complete and runs, but the motor knocks really bad. It has typical wear and tear, so needs everything cosmetic redone. All of the body panels and glass are good. I would keep the chassis and part out the rest, but I am wondering if being the first year, the suspension and rear end are as good as those in the later models. Basically I want some input on what the body parts might be worth, if the chassis parts are as good as the later years, and will any of the electrical parts (computer for instance) work on my '87? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome into the forums there!

'87 got the loping idle? Up and down rev? Probably has vacuum leaks in the intake.

The 84 models have probably the best suspension of all the C4's made. IIRC the 84 turned in the highest number of G's of an model produced from 84-96. It is a really stiff suspension though.

hey, i dont think the computer will work and as far as the idle, could also be the injectors, which are not uncommon to go bad. Mine had the same problem and it was the injectors as well as a PCV valve and a trottle body gasket leak.

RE: New Guy

Thanks for the help on the '87 and the comments on the '84 suspension. I was really hoping that someone would come on here and decide for me if I should buy the '84 or not though. Guess it really doesn't work that way, and I will have to decide for myself. I thought I might be able to swap out some parts to solve some of the '87's problems. I don't really have time to work on it right now, so I will have to get back to youwhen I do. Thanks
