Painting car questions

I want to paint my red 90 from the black feature strip, down, all the way around the car. Bad, bad rock chips down there. I have a bid of $1475.00 from my local bodyshop. They also painted my 69 conv. in 2004and I only paid $1500.00 for the whole thing. They do great work but the 1475 just seems high. Also, who can suggest a good "rock chip guard", ie:rigid mudflap, for the 90? j

RE: Painting car questions

I'm kinda' surprised he'll do it for LESS!

If he was doin' the whole car, he wouldn't have to match up anything. Whereas, doin' only from the trim strip, he'll have to fire that laser color/wavelength reader to get the mix right to match the top (or at least, that's how it's supposed to be done).

See if he'll call you when he's pencil'ling in someone with a red car, that's close enough (or get him to put you in touch with the other person, and talk it over to match YOUR paint). Both of you can get out much cheaper, and the painter can get two cars sprayed with one set-up. And trust me, he doesn't enjoy set-up. AND, I'm not talkin' about prep either.

If you're gonna' do the flap guard thing, go with flat black - they're harder to see. Colored, even matching, just ain't cool[8D].
