The switch is more than likely bad or grounded out. The switch is on the lever and you have to pull your seat out to get the cover off to gain access to it.

my 87 does the same thing. It goes off if I pull the handle towards me while releasing.

Dido, my 87 does the same. I'm going to just unplug it. I was able to take the cover off without removing the seat using a niffty 90 degree screwdriver to get to the screws. Good luck.

Here's the part for the parking brake switch for C4

The following part number worked on my 1984 C4 Corvette (manual). This is an exact replacement! 15045983
Search for that part number on Amazon. Or here's the Amazon URL: While the Corvette is not listed as one of the vehicles for this part, it was an exact match and it solved my issue where the parking brake light was remaining on after releasing the brake. Very happy!

Also wanted to note that we did not have to remove the seat to install this parking brake switch. :)

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for the info but this thread is 14 years old and I doubt the people are around anymore who could benefit from it. Perhaps at a later date someone else may come across it with the same problem however so it could do some good.
