performance upgades where to start?

Now that I got my Vette I would like to get some performance mods done to it.
I found a reputable speed shop to do the work. I just don't know what to start with.
It has a Billy Boat Catback exhaust that the previous owner had installed.
I want to start off small and work my way up. I've got a $2000 budget
What are a few wise mods that I can build on later?
The car's an 89 L98 Automatic. I would rather have a 6 speed but unfortunately I have bad knees.

RE: performance upgades where to start?

since you've already got the exhaust, the next weakest link in the L98 is the intake. there are several different options here. you can go with a TPI style intake, with a bigmouth base and large runners, or the superram and the miniram. it really depends what kind of engine you want: a torque monster or a high-rev screamer.

other recommended mods:
Long tube headers
1.6 roller rockers (very worth while)
ported plenum

and check those cats you have on your car. if the main cat was not replaced with the catback, i would definately suggest changing that too. when you get the headers, that will take care of the precats.

btw, ive been realllllly interested in the B&B exhaust. how does it sound? any overwhelming resonance issues? i havent heard many reviews of it.
