problem after installing new intake manifold

[:o]Help!! my son and I installed a new intake manifold on our 85 vette. it was shot. So we got it done slowly, got it put back together and when we started her up to our dismay there is a snapping or clicking noise (loud) and it appears to be coming from the upper right side of the engine..... Then when you accelerate the engine (we are not driving her) the snapping clicking matches the acceleration. Then when you let off the gas there is a loud POP!!! that appears to be coming from the air intake or going out of it....lol... I am stuck and I cannot figure out what is going on with this mess. Can anyone give me some ideas before we take the whole thing apart again??? Please help. I checked out the information on this site MY ENGINE and C4VETTE Intake manifold. I bought a manual and I just don't know what it could be.... anyone out there??[&o] Oh and by the way we did check the order of the plug wires and the plugs. HELP[:o]

is it an intake manifold leak? did you check along the gasket?

We replaced the intake manifold and I hope we checked along it carefully. You see the whole package started when my son's corvette started dumping water/antifreeze while at work, we checked it carefully and found the intake manifold was trashed. then when we got into the job we found that the whole manifold thing was crusted and ruined so we replaced it Now we put it all back together and it was a you know what. We started her up and click click click that goes faster with the engine and upon decilleration there is a loud pop into the air intak or out of it, and I am sort of thinking it may be a valve?? you know out of adjustment or a valve float, or the timing, but we checked the timing and I am just so mad, because being his mom I really thought we did it all you know?
thanks I know it is hard not seeing it, I am just looking for any ideas so we can check it all.

perhaps the increased heat damaged the valve train? im not sure what type of valve train that car has, but if it has hydraulic lifters, that could be your problem...

Someone mentioned to me that it looks like we are missing a hose on the EGR control valve. We are looking for a diagram of the vacum lines, but we cant find one. I think it may be a vaccum leak?!?! Thanks

sounds like a gasket to me.

it could be a vacuum leak...but that would be more of a steady sucking sound.

if u pulled the distibuter when u did intake wich u had to it sounds like ur a tooth off on dist or firing order. noise out of intake is exhaust gas that is coming out intake due to firing order or tooth off the dist. once ur certain ur are perfect there post back noise should go away.
if u did not touch the vale adjustment wich is zero lash u should be ok. sounds simple enough.
