realistic value of a very clean '95
 

Make a long story short I still have and cherish my 1995 white coupe. I "mothball" it from November to May every year so it has never been driven in winter and has only been rained on once! It has never been wrecked, driven hard or mistreated and always garaged unless being driven. Yesterday when I disconnected the battery it has exactly 15,303 miles. In talking with my Allstate agent this morning she suggests that I get a different policy - that is not Allstate and insure it strictly for what it is worth should it be totalled. She said that is like a life insurance policy in that I establish the value and should the car be destroyed I would get exactly the insured level I applied for - not one dime more or one dime less. So given this info I used the appraisal feature here and it tells me realistically if I were to buy my car today at a dealer I would pay about $8,200, but if I sold it to a private individual I'd only get about $5,000. Since the insurance premium is going to be a lot less than Allstate I'm thinking I would set the value at the $8,200 level. That make sense or could I expect to sell it for more due to the low mileage and condition? Thanks!!!

I think your a little low. Go to KBB & check your value there. I have a 95 with twice your mileage & get a price of 14K. I used the good condition category in lieu of excellent.

Thank you Viscount! I wonder why the estimate offered via this board is so far off from KBB. I'm going with a more realistic $17k as that is what I would have to expect to pay retail to replace my car. Thank you again!

I have a 1990 with 105,000 miles on it. However it is in "PRIMO" condition. When I decided to get it insured for proper value with State Farm I simply took mine to a Chevrolet Dealer and had it appraised for "Retail Value" which they gave me between $15,000 and $17,000. I took that to State Farm and insured it for $16,000.

call me obviously naive! The company which my Allstate agent convinced me to switch to was not some little shaky up-start insurance company, but nationally known and respected Hagerty! I got the same coverage I needed in order to also meet the liability requirements of a separately carried PUP (Personal Umbrella Policy) which I HIGHLY recommend to people, PLUS I am now covered 365 days a year and don't have to take my Vette in and out of insurance coverage during all those months I don't drive it like I had to with Allstate in order to save money while it was "mothballed". Also it is now insured - replacement-wise for what it would cost me to go into the open market and replace it if totalled or burnt up or whatever instead of what low-ball number Allstate would make me settle on based not on mileage nor condition but merely on age! And on TOP of all that...I saved over $300 a year. I recommend Hagerty for anyone with a low mileage older Vette.
