Return to normal Idle

[align=left]Hi again
I have an 87 and just had some dealer work on the EGR system. The return to normal idle speed after driving is not happening all the time. Like when on the freeway when you take your foot off the pedal it does not slow down and the speed remains constant. Also when coming to a light it does not seem to come down to idle very soon. Any one else experience this? The thottle plates are nice and clean and free working along with the linkage. It seems to be a mechanical item.

RE: Return to normal Idle

This a very common issue with the L98 TPI System. Once a month or so, whether it needs it or not, I remove the MAF and spray a little Silicone on the butterfly pivots and on the outside as well, It'll keep you idling at 800rpm.

If lubeing the throttle plates don't help, you might have to replace idle control motor. If you replace motor, disconnect battery for a couple of minutes, then reconnect it and go drive it around for10 -15 minutes to let it relearn idle. [8D]

Also, check for any vacuum leaks. Vacuum leak could cause a high idle.

My 86 vert. does that too , I have cleaned the butterflies many times and checked for vacume leaks , but I think I have to replace the idle motor air valve . ( it doesn't always idle high but enough to pi$$ me off)
Cheers and have a merry christmas

You are right it just enough to piss you off. When yo drive a newer car and it returns to normal real quick you want all of your cars to do it.
