Spark Plug info
 

I have a 1990 L98 with a few mods (exhaust, throttle body, injectors, chip, K&N air filter). She runs pretty strong & has been trouble free.

A gear head (& tinkerer) I work with told me about a spark plug that is supposed to boost HP & torque & better gas mileage (up to 10% or so).

The plug in question is the "Pulsu Plug" by PULSTAR. Their web site claims that it had some type of circuitry inside the plug to boost the spark by 2,000 times (or 20,000 times I don't remember). They cost about $30.00 per plug.

My thinking is that with an injected, computer controlled engine like the vette has, the combustion process is pretty complete & a hotter spark won't have much effect.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with these plugs?

Snake oil. Spark plugs are spark plugs basically. Splitfires, super-gunga-cross-zippidydooda, what ever all those other wallet lightening plugs are called are snake oil.

I bought Bosch +4s last year and they SUCKED! Pardon my language, but that isputting there poor quality nicely.My car idled rough so it went to a shop and switched out for AC Delco rapid fire plugs and stopped the issue. OEM is good. If it was not, then GM would not use it. One exception IMO, is Mobil1. I think they had a money deal with GM but that is just speculation.

Wait. I resign my previous statement with this. If your taking spark plugs that are fouled and causing drivability issues or they are your original plugs from 15+ years ago and you replace them with a good plug, then yes, I would say you would get a few ponies back, better fuel mileage BUT nothing more than what your car is suppose to make. You won't really gain any extra horsepower, just what you lost with bad plugs. I don't know what the life span of a plug is though so.....Regardless, if they are saying you get horsepower from those plugs, they probably did a dyno with fouled plugs and stretched the truth..and I doubt they even did that. Just like a airfoil adds 10+ horsepower.

Detonation is detonation.

A $30 plug x 8 might give a more complete burn, but I think the mixture is a greater factor, than the plug.

Save yer cash...

Thanks for the feed back! I misspelled the name it's Pulse Plug....To my way of thinking you can only get so much/many BTU's from a unit of gas. The engine is designed to operate at a certain level and produce a certain amount of power. A new (or perfect) engine would produce the peak amount of power the engine was built to make (at least that is what it seems like it should). I don't understand how giving a bigger spark would provide 10% more power!!!!

Maybe a 1957 283 with 2x4 carbs sould benefit from a hotter spark and might get a boost in power, but a Z06, I don't think so!!!!
