Time for new suspension?
I purchased 1993 coupe last fall. The ride seems rough. I've assumed it just a stiff suspension. However, I'm beginning to wonder if its rough simply because its worn out. Any tips for determining a stiff susp. from a worn suspension?
It has a pair of yellow BilStein shocks on the front. any chance those are original with 181k miles on them? |
A worn suspension will result in sloppy handling and irregular tire wear, not a rough ride.
Check the option codes sticker for the sport suspension option. I believe it was Z51 but not sure. If the shocks are original, they are probably shot. |
steering seems a little loose, especially when finding an irregular road surface on a gentle curve. I assumed bushings or maybe tie rod ends. I will check my sticker.

Here are the 1993 suspension option codes:
FE1 - Base suspension FE3 - Sport suspension FE7 - High performance suspension I have base. |
With that many miles, I suspect that the entire suspension will need to be checked.

ARE BilStein shocks original from factory?

I believe they are. I know that Corvettes have used Bilsteins.

Welcome to the forum.
Without riding in it, it's hard to tell as one man's rough ride is another's road hugging, race ready ride. You didn't say how many miles it has but you could check the shocks, ball joints, idler arm, tie rod ends, sway bar bushings, and end link grommets. |
