TPI maf system V TPI SPEED DENSITY

Hello,
Has anyone change a '87 vett from a MAF system to a Speed Density system, by adding a MAP sensor, Accel power process for a GM computer controlled engine and the use of CALMAP calibration software.

Why are you changing?

The MAF system is really restrictive with the maf sensor and then i can add a ram air system. with the CALMAP software you can hook up a laptop and change fuel and time curves

PM mech. He would know. If you want to go the cheap route, descreen your maf and grind down the heat sink fins. But if your set on that, then go for it. Good luck.

Im not sure if the pros outweigh the cons. The reason they changed back to MAF was because the MAP system isnt as accurate in measuring air coming in. You can get an adjustable MAF, or get different software to change the tables.

Later years, GM used speed density in production vehicles and it works fine. When they brought it back, they re-engineered the MAF hot wire sensor for more durability and accuracy. We have changed out a lot of the older MAF's, but very few of the newer ones. Even Ford tried the speed density setup along with Chrysler in early 90's. You shouldn't have any problems with it, just as long as you got the proper calibration for it.
