Weatherstrip for hatch

:) Has anyone replaced the weather strip for the rear hatch?...my 1993 40AE weather strip cracked at the corners otherwise the rest of it is fine...well, let me backup...It has also started to pull away from the body...I just bought the OEM replacement from GM$$$$...Any advice on its installation?...dealer wants $130 to install both hatch weather strip and the one that goes across the behind the driver and passenger seats from one end to next...I have zero experience and tools needed to do the job...Any advice? --Awesome forum!!!

RE: Weatherstrip for hatch

I did the hatch strip on my '87 a few years ago.

The big deal is clean all the old adhesive 'jam' from the edges after removing the old strippin'. Remove one hatch strut at a time, get the strippin' into place, then reconnect the first strut, disconnect the second strut, and get the strippin' into place for a dry fit.

Once you got it into place dry, you can then move it out of the way to apply adhesive, and put it into place permanent.

Support the hatch glass with a broomstick when each strut is disconnected. Tape it at the top - you dont want the glass to pop if it slips.

edit typo...
