Yet another trans question

I know I have had a lot of questions on my 85 700R4 transmission but transmission is a weak point in my oh so limited knowledge on these cars. I recently had the accumulator springs changed out for a harder shift. It shifts out of first to second at around 3000 rpm and about 2500rpm from second to third now that the new springs are in and it shifts firmer. Are the new heavier accumulator springs making it shift later in the rpm (3000 or so) or is the tv cable adjustment the reason it shifts later? I want to know because I like the harder shifts that the new springs give but maybe I don't like the later rpm shifts. I think it should shift at around 2500 or even 2200. If I can have the hard shifts without the higher rpm shifts then great. if the springs make it do both then I'll just leave it alone. I hope this makes sense. I think it does. Thanks in advance for replies. Mech259, help if you can. You gave valuable tips on last transmission post.

TV cable should control your upshift points. Follow the adjustment procedure I outlined earlier, then move the cable housing towards the throttle body a little @ a time to play with your shift points. [8D]

Thanks, we'll do.

Had any luck with the shift points yet?

Yeah, I have. I have the firmer shifts that I wanted but this shifting at 3000 rpm in each gear is not sitting right with me. i haven't had time to follow your procedure yet as I have been working alot. I talked to my mechanic last night at our local watering hole and he told me what you told me about having someone hold the button on the cable while I pushed the accelerator peddle to the floor and then release the button. The question I have is, will my shifts get all soft again after I do this or did the acumulator springs stiffen up the shifts? Maybe I'm just being too picky, I don't know. Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it. I'm gonna do that accelerator peddle thing this weekend unless you tell me to leave it. It shifts great. i just wonder if 3000 shift point is too high in the rpm and that I'll just end up putting excessive wear and tear on the motor.

The springs usually make the shift snappier, still can control upshift somewhat with TV cable adjustment. Adjust like I told u puts it at ground zero so to speak. ;)

LISTEN TO ME.BY NOT ADJUSTING THAT TV CABLE AND DRIVING THE CAR YOU WILL..WILL RUIN THAT TRANNY,IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU ADJUST THAT TV CABLE RIGHT AWAY,EXPECIALLY WITH THAT ACUMULATOR SPRING THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED.YOU WILL BURN UP YOUR CLUCHES AND STEELS IF YOU DO NOT ADJUST THAT CABLE.[:o]

RE: Yet another trans question

The reason you adjust the TV (Throttle Valve) cable is for fluid pressures in the tramsnmission to follow throttle angle, more throttle, more pressure. If you don't have correct pressures on clutches when you apply more power, they slip, they burn, they go ouch![8D]

RE: Yet another trans question

I haven't been driving the car in a couple of weeks. I had it back in the shop becuase the clutches were slipping. Now they don't but I bet I haven't put 5 miles on the car since I got it back with the new accumulator spring and tv cable adjusted the way my mechanic adjusted it. Been driving the truck. The car is in the garage. I will adjust it in the manner that mech259 suggested when I have time to even fool with the car. Thank you all for the advice.
