Break Lights
 

Having trouble with the right side break lights. Done miner trouble shooting can't figure it out. New bulbs, check the plug-ins and nothing. Please HELP! There is nothing worst than driving your baby around not up to par!!!!!!!!

What year is your Vette? and what exactly is happening?

first thing you should do is verify that you have voltage at the socket, this is easily done witha volt meter. Have you done any work in/around that area lately?
You could have a bad socket. Check all the fuses just in case, most likely not the problem, but can't hurt.

My car is a 98 which I haven't had to touch sense the day I bought it. I did replace the bulbs and checked the voltage. With the tail lights on or the blinkers I have power. When the break is on, nothing.

Could be the Brake light switch giving you problems.

The brake light switch controls both sides, I believe, so I doubt that is the cause.

Break light switch was not the problem, at least that I can tell. I checked for shorts today and couldn't find any. I am now at a total loss. Looks like I may just have to take her in to a pro........ By the way, thanks to those who tried to help.

We always hope for the easy fixes, but that doesn't sound like the case for your problem. Let us know what you / they find out.

I had the same problem on my 2000 C5. Two different sources checked the problem out. Flashers, tail light and turn signal all worked.. No brake lights on right side.

Both an independent garage, (they did an electrical check $100.) and a Chevy dealer (two different towns) listed the same source as the problem. The brake light signal is run through the turn signal on the steering column. I know it sounds far fetched, but that is what fixed my car. The turn signal group was replaced. The dealer told me it was over kill, because a lot of the components within the turn signal group were working properly, but it was the only way to correct the problem. A little less than $700. and 3 hours took care of it. Both estimates were within $50. of each other. Car was repaired in July '06.

I searched this forum and others, but was unable to find out the proplem or the cure. Sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for the input. It does sound a little far-out but the more I learn about the newer Vettes the more I find you can through old school wisdom out the door. I'll tear into this weekend hopefully.
