Collumn Lock

I went to crank my 1998 C-5 convertible and the service column lock comes on and will not release. Is there any way to reset this within (as the service manual says) tow to your nearest dealer? Can anyone out there in Covvette land help out..thanks in Texas.

Lock

Chevrolet recalled Corvettes because of a bad design. There is a harness you can install to bypass, Dealer recall removed lock bracket. My 99 went through recall before I bought. The switch still move just no lock. My switch went bad telling the computer it was locked and woul start but would shut dow at 2 1/2 mph. It cost me 500 bucks to replace a switch that does nothing. There is no computer setting or resest that will over ride. Do a google search on column lock. Good luck.

Sometimes a quick snap on the wheel will free it up. Saved me several times. Many times this is caused by low battery voltage. I just went through this with an 02 ZO6. The car would start but the battery voltage was low at about 12.0 volts. I got it to the dealer and they installed the K harness and removed the lockplate per the TSB. The next day the "service column lock" message appeared (because of the low battery) and I was stuck again. I could steer but the fuel cut off at 1.5MPH since the message was displayed. Two try's later the message dissapeared and I was on my way. I installed a new battery and have not had an issue since. A week later I had a co worker who is a tuner reprogram my ECM to change the fuel cutoff from 1.5MPH to 255 MPH so when the new battery gets low on voltage I should be OK.
