DIC voltage says 13.3 volts, battery and alternator output says 14.3 getting charging

Hi guys, new to forum, bought a front end damaged 1997 6spd, repaired the bumper and both front fenders, and repainted them. Car was ridden hard and put away wet. Spent days repairing wiring and interior parts, must of been a ricer, every lite was hid or led made in china garbage. Car looks good, finally got to drive it today, and the DIC is giving me fits, about charging. DIC says 13.2 loaded or unloaded, output at alternator is 14.3 same as battery. I removed all the wires at starter and cleaned them. Still showing 13.2 to 13.5volts. Car has an optima yellow battery. Going to get it emissions tested tomorrow ang get battery load tested. Anyone point me in the correct direction. Maybe ignition switch. By the way odometer showed 364,000 miles. Sorry for the long post.

Welcome to the forum. Probably going to need a factory wiring diagram to solve this one. There's one in the factory service manual which you can get from aftermarket Corvette suppliers.

Thanks I have the electrical schematics. From what I learned so far is the 97-00 c5 uses the 110 amp valeo alternator, which did not have the de clutching pulley, my alternator on the car has it and it’s a scrape yard one. From what I’ve read anything but the correct alternator will not work and cause the symptoms I have. This started around 05 when gm discontinued the 110amp alternator, and became a known problem. There’s suppose to be a dealer re flash that can take car of this. I guess you can either pay the stealer or replace the alternator, probably close to the same price. I think I’ll replace the alternator, since I don’t know the history behind mine, as soon as I can confirm my information is correct.
thanks

Supposedly GM did the alternator change to improve fuel economy. I didn't realize they used a clutch on the pulley though. I thought they were using the computer to control the alternator output. I know my Tahoes ('07 & '10) that had that controlled alternator output feature hardly ever showed the charging voltage above 13. It usually ran around 12.7 which is basically a normal charge battery. Hopefully the correct alternator will fix your problem.

I just ordered a valeo new gm replacement, we’ll see if it fixes the problem. The latching pulley was used on the 145amp auto cars, to stop belt squeak and slap at the idler, it acts like a cushion. I think c6 and up all had it.
thanks

Did that fix your problem? If not look too loose ground points. There's seven in total. The dealer shop manual wiring diagrams will show you there's four on the frame under the hood three on the back of the motor two on the b pillars and two in the trunk. Rumor has it there might be one under the radio behind the console. They always need to be cleaned up with a wire wheel and dielectric grease after you put them back together

Welcome to the forum. This thread is almost a year old so you probably will not get an answer.
