Keep or sell?????

Ok after having my 99 coupe for about 2 mounths I love it. The problem is, that I have 139k on the beautiful car and would love to do some performance mods to it, I'm not sure the engine is going to hold up do to the high milage. It runs great and still has a lot of power. With my motorcycles I have always said, go big or go home. And now I own a vette. I guess I must apply the same to this car that I did my bikes.
I was thinking supercharger. Bolt ons to be more exact. It seems you can do a lot to a vette even without getting into the engine itself. I traded the car for a motorcycle and I got the better of the deal, but the stuff you guy's are doing to your cars just makes me want to build this one up.But again not sure the engine would hold.It had a new tranny installed 6k ago. I could'nt get a picture to work on this forum or I would show the car to you guy's. any feed back would help. Thanks.

You will have to decide how much money you can spend and how much of the work you will do yourself. A supercharger kit will run you about $4500-$6000 and you and a friend could install it in a day or two. Given your high miles, I would not recommend it: I've seen LS V8s with heavy modes go to 160K but I've also seen some expire at 100K.

If I had $6000 to spend and some time to work on the car I would attempt to replace the engine with a stroker. I'd shop around for a bargain short-block stroker, something in the 383/412 cubic inch range. I'd find a local shop to re-condition the heads and maybe port them, then do the assembly work yourself and you could probably end up with enough money left over to install a mild cam kit (something that did not require new rockers, etc., and headers at the same time. This would give you a new engine, about 75-80 more HP and torque, and result in a really great car for both track and daily driving.

If you have substantially less than half that amount, I would not do anything but put headers and a CAI on the engine. Neither contributes much additional stress to the engine and they provide some added power.
