Low Oil Level?

I have a 2003 Z06 and every now and then the low oil level comes up on the display. Dipstick shows it's not low and the oil pressure is good. I hit the reset and it goes away. There is no pattern to when it comes on and sometimes I go for days and it wont come on at all. Can anyone give some insight as to what might be causing this.

Thanks in advance

John

RE: Low Oil Level?

Could be your sending unit, although with the year model yours is, I think the sending unit reports to the body control module or it may have an instrument control module. To check operation of the modules, I would have to hook up my GM Tech 2 scanner to it to see. [8D]

Think hard about this: does it happen more just after you have really gone around a corner aggressively? Oil starvation is a problem if you corner a vette hard. There is a reason why GM went to a dry sump in the new ZO6 -- that is the one feature of the LS7 I wish I had in my wet-sump C5R.

RE: Low Oil Level?

I have noticed that when the car is parked on an incline sometimes it will come on when I first start the car. But even after driving a few miles I still have to hit the reset to clear it. At first I thought that it could be what your refering to as an oil starvation problem. However, I was cruising on the freeway, no hard turns just steady speed 70 - 75 mph and it came on again. About 10 miles after that it did it again same scenario. Got to where I was going and the car sat for a few hours and on the way back driving the same roads same speeds it never came on and that was about a 45 mile trip. Took it out the following day and it never came on. I know there is the proper level of oil in the car and I take better care of that car than my wife - so she says LOL... I feel safe in saying that it is not causing any mechanical damage and it's more of an annoyance problem than anything else but I really want to find out why this is happening.
