LS1 to LS7

I've been wondering this for some time now...and it's about time I share. I've been thinking about getting the C6 Z06 but my C5 is already paid for...so instead of spending the money on a new Z06 I was thinking about dropping in the LS7 instead...but here's the problem: I have the A4 tranny but I want to convert it to the M6 when I put in the LS7. How hard would that be? Is it even practical or should I sell my A4 and buy a M6? I know it can be done because back in my "ricer" days, my buddy converted his civic to manual from automatic.

Also...ifI continue to buy bolt-on's for my LS1 (headers, intake, supercharger, etc.) will they be compatible with the LS7?

Thanks in advance to all who reply!

Somebolt-ons you buy will not be compatible with the LS7. Many more might physically fit but not be compatible. Buying the LS7 and converting over is pretty easy although much more involved that you might think. You might want to look around at various companies like SLP, Lingenfelter and latech that sell complete engines with all the trimmings to swtich over. Cheaper int he long run (and much quicker).

Changing out for an M6 is do-able but its all about how much money you spend, etc. Realize the trans is at the rear so it can't be part of the engine switchout, and you'll have to do major re-programming any way.

I'd look at buying a new car, frankly. Your car is already apid for but you are looking at a good deal of money $20K+ to convert the engine correctly, another $7 or so do do the transmission correctly along with theupgrades required to use the power.

Lee...thanks for the insight! Didn't think it would be that much to swap out! I think I will go ahead and look at getting the C6 Z06...but I'm thinking $85,000 is too pretty a penny right now...I may wait a couple years and get a nice used one with 20,000 miles driven by the little ol lady from pasadena!

Is it true that the `08 Z06 will have 600hp or is it just a rumor?!

I think the 09 SS Corvette will have 600hp and have a blower. But it will also most likely cost $100k.[:-]According to Chevy it's basically a done deal, they want to compete with the viper. They also said it may have more than 600hp because again they want to top the viper.

It is not true guys. 600 HP? Where did this rumor come from?

If you believe Motor Trend and a few other sources, the rumored "blue devil" super ZO6 will debut in '09 or so with around 600-650 Hp factory rating. GM might do this although if they do it will be for image alone. Realize that:
- this is not a normal vette which will remain around 430 HP, or even a normal ZO6, which will probably grow to 525 or so, and the cost: $100000+.
- there have been a couple of supercharger/turboed 427 ZO6s seen cicling the Nurburgring, etc., so the car might very well have a SCr, but . . .
- GM supposedly has also said it will have a displacement over 427 cubic inches. Remember GM has the GMPP LSX block - a decked verison of the LS engines which can go to 480-500 cubic inches. It's iron instead of aluminum but the added weight is only about what a SCr would add.Just scaling up from the standard ZO6to 500 cubes on a would get it to 591 HP, throw in direct injection and you'd have another 10%, and you're at 650 without forced induction.
- I also read where GM said the car would not have 4 wheel drive, which is what any car with that much power really needs, so it will be more of a curiousity with useless power for the street (I know, I own something very much like that).
