problem with the am stations on the radio?

I have a problem with my radio in my '98 vette. If its hot outside and the windows are up, when I get in and turn on the radio to a am station, All I get is a loud static noise. The fm frequency is fine. Anyone else have that problem and know how to fix it? Thanks.

I'm not clear on when and how the situation occurs. You say you get no AM when its hot outside, the windows are up, and you get in it and turn on the radio. Are you saying that when it is cold outside, or when the windows are down, or when you have been in the car for a while and then turn on the radio, the AM recpetion works fine?

Yes, that is the gist of it. When its colder or cool outside, the am frequency picks up fine, also the fm. When its hot, something seems to be heating up to cause the am to get knocked off. Very strange. After I drive around for about an hour or so, with A/C on, finally, I can switch over to am and it will work.

I would imagine it is either the antenna lead cable is loose, or you have a bad circuit board in the radio itself.
