Cam packkage, Need Help

First of all this is my first corvette, and i am looking to get a cam package but i want a cam that wont have a rough idle? Any suggestions? I hear the g5x3 is very good ad also what kind of power could i expect to pick up. Also would i need to get it dyno tuned or get a chip? i just need a cam with a very good idle and what all parts would i need besides the cam ? THANKS

Sorry for the noob questions

RE: Cam packkage, Need Help

I would:
1) first all determine where you plan to end up. Is the cam the last mod you will do? Do you plan to add LT headers (I would first). A supercharger down the road. Heads? Make a long term plan.
2) Call a reputable aftermarket cam firm (i.e, Crower, Crane) talk to a technician there and explain what you have now, what you want, and what you plan to add later. Take their advice. Unless you have a heavily modded engine that is "new" (ie., something different that they have no or little experience with that type of mod) they will know exactly what to recommend. Buy that.
3) Buy everything they recommend: springs, retainers, new pushrods, lifters, etc. I'd recommend shaft mounted rocker arms, too.
4) Don't focus just on max HP. A broad power band and good mid range torque are worth more than a few ponies up at the top of the RPM band.
5) Don't expect mircales from only a cam. It takes a heads and cam package to make a big big difference, although the right combination of headers and a cam can really result in sweet increase in power.
