160 km/h @ 2400 RPM in 6th.

OK, so I had to post this! I couldn't believe it myself. Did I see it wrong?

The 6.0 litre engine of the C6 was not even breaking a sweat. I believe it has the same gear ratios as the Z06 therefore 315 km/h (on a track of course) seems quite conceivable. Oh, and by the way, I only did this for a brief moment because I am such a "nancy boy" and the ticket would have been nasty.

Nope Pierre,
Top speed for the C6 is 187 mph = 299 mph. The Z06 is faster.

Woohoo! Plenty fast.

Top speed for the C6 is 187 mph = 299 mph.
187 pmph = 299 kph

Note the top speed in all standard vette's since the C4 isreached in 5th gear, not 6th,6th being such a low ratiooverdrive gear. Redline in 6th, if the car had the power to pull it, would givea stock C4, C5, C6 a speed of between 225 and 250+ depending on the model, but a stock C4-C6 vette will pull only between 130-150 mph in 6th, only reving to about 4000 rpm max.

Interestingly, one of the frustrating weaknesses of the vette for hot rodders is that sixth gear. Because the engine can never even reach the max-torque RPM (4500) in 6th, the gear components are not designed to be particularly strong -- in a stock car they are never going to see full torque so why spend money to make them strong enough to handle it?: So when you mod the engine and now have the power to pull higher RPMs in 6th, the gear wears out very quickly (sometimes it just breaks).

Whew
and I thought 120 mph was fast...

All of this begs the question of "How much fast is really necessary when quickness is more the requirement?". Given that North American highway safety laws do not permit us great speeds, I so wish we had the equivalent of the German Autobahn. I have used our ETR 407 higway (late at night) for a quick test or two but the penalty could still be extremely painful.

Thank you for the additional info Lee. You are a very good source of knowlege and experience.

Silver, that sounds about right. I pretty regularly get my car going at 120 mph which is the equivalent of around 200 kph. Even at those speeds, the car feels like it's hardly working. Sounds like you should be doing some more of that speed stuff ... don't your police give a bit of a break to beautiful yellow Corvettes as they do in California? ;)

Hahahaha! I wish! I definitely need some track time with this grrrl. I like what you did to yours. Is this your daily ride?

>187 pmh = 299 kph

I've had my C6 upto 165mph........it struggled at that pace on open roads........I would like to see 187mph, I have doubts it could be consistently achieved, evenat the track!

For those that want the extra 20mph...I wish you good luck.....I consider myself a good driver and I really don't want to take a C6 above 160 mph.....it could get very dangerous!!
