Insurance

I was wondering how much insurance would be for a 2005 corvette 6M. I am 16 yes old, i have a 3.9 gpa and i would be insured as the second driver.

Too much - go for something more practical at that age. I am 20 years old and own a 2005 Corvette. My insurance isn't bad at all but I have a good driving record and my rates dropped dramatically.

if i wanted practical i would be asking about a honda civic. Im adament on buying the vette. its does 26 mpg highway, has enough room for me and my backpack =), and its FAST. this will be my everyday car and my track car. ive had plenty of prior driving experience.

How can you afford such a car?

You must call an insurance company or another insurance provider and get quotes.

Have your parents call their company and add you and your car.

It is impossible for anyone here to answer your question.

I am in the biz

Hi Bear2Vette, congratulations on the 3.9 gpa, that is something to be proud of, and welcome to the forum.
As far as whats it cost, you know what thay say, "If you have to ask then you can't afford it", PG.

Are you already on your parents insurance as a driver? If so, have your parents call the insurance company and ask how much it would be to add the car to their policy.

Your going to be the "second" driver but you're buying it ? Your 16. Being practical is the smart thing to do.

I can probably help you out a little bit on this. With a 3.9 GPA you'll usually get some sort of nominal discount with your insurance company. Another factor to take into account is used or new. You're going used, but it's still under factory warranty and is considered new enough by most insurance companies to command a premium. It's a 2 seater... another factor. Its viewed purely as a sports car because it is a 2 seater 2 door. V8 = higher displacement = more HP = higher insurance. Being insured as the second driver is the smart way to go. I did that when I was 16 too and it saved me a lot. If you were to go on your own plan, your insurance would be outrageous, but by going on as a second driver on your parents plan, you'll save a lot. The only other area you might catch a break would be if you chose to go hardtop. Coupes are considered safer by insurance companies, but then again, you're still dealing with a vette. I'm not an insurance agent so I can't quote you but most providers can give you quotes online or have your parents inquire with their agent on your behalf. My first car was 1992 Lexus ES300, on my parent's policy, good GPA discount. It was older, high mileage, out of warranty, 4 doors and I was paying about 1700 for a year. Fast forward 3 years... Honda S2K on my parent's policy... about 1600 a year. Take into accound I was older, but it was still a roadster. I looked at getting my own policy, and it nearly doubled my payment so I piggy backed off mom and dad while I still could. Now: 22, G35 Coupe, my own policy... 1200. This by most standards is VERY good for a 22 year old in a sports car. I use SAFECO which I believe was acquired by Encompass this past year. It really all depends, but long story short, its not going to be cheap for a 16 year old driver to insure a vette, especially if you plan on having your future mods insured.
