Loaded Z06 or Loaded Coupe??

Hey Everyone,

I am ordering a 2008 Vette from a local dealer and I'm debating which to choose. Money is the only factor in this (obviously). I either take all I have plus a loan and just goall out andput it towards a loaded Z06. Or, take all I have and put it towards a loaded Coupe. My question is, what is so different about the 2008 LS3 coupe vs the 2008 LS7 Z06? Obviously there is the exterior difference and the engine but where else would my extra 20k go?

Thanks for your help.

Your $20K basically buys about 65 extra HP and bigger wheels, and slightly more performance orientation all around, etc.
Either way, opt for the premium interior upgrade: though pricey at nearly $8K (it includes other stuff, too) it seems to make a world of difference in the feel or the car.

If it were me, I think I would go for the standard model with the LS3 engine. The performance difference is not that much -- not enough you would feel it when driving every day -- and the money is a substantial difference. What your $20K buys you is that you're driving the meanest dog on the street -- except for $250K+ exotics nothing stock is faster, period. Nice feeling, no doubt about it. Trouble is, within a very short time -- certainly only two years -- there will be one or two or more out there faster: the newer SS Corvette for sure, the new 600 HP Viper (just as sure to be faster), and maybe the Lexus V-10 coming out, and maybe the V-10 Audi R8within two years. All will cost more, but, you know, that's the way it goes.

And it's all academic: all these cars and the LS3 "base" model are faster than "just about anything else" and proving which is faster would be far too dangerous on the street: take it to the local track and you could sort it out but the problem there is anything stock will get sand kicked in its feet: my 'vette will put nearly 15 lengths on a C6ZO6 with headers and drag radials -- and it gets beat, sometimes badly,by more extreme cars out there (its sole advantage is it really is as civilized as a stock model).

So, in my view you are paying nearly $900/month for the right to drive, for two years, a car with the image (and near-reallity) of being "the fastest thing on the street:" lotta money for image.

Good answer Lee (as usual )I couldn't agree more. I think for the money difference the loaded coupe is the way to go. you could take the 20 k and sup up the vette. I would have to say there is less difference this year than any other that I can recall. Or better yet take the 20 K and put it in a nice mutual fund and it 3-4 years you'll have a nice down payment on the new C7.
