Service Active Handling.

Firstly I want to say Hi to you all cos I've just joined. I am in need of tech advice and I came here to see if you guys might be able to give me some info. I have a 05 C6 with the power telescoping steering. The service active handling messagae and light has come on for some reason. It seems that there was a TSB re this problem on the 05 and 06. It could be either a bad connection with a plug in connector under the column (due to the telescoping action) or might indeed be the steering wheel position sensor ($72.50 for a new sensor at the dealer) that is faulty. I was going to either check the connector and if necc replace the sensor. My question is, what and how do I removethe padding/cover panel under the column and what wiring/connector should I be looking for and what does the actual SWPS look like and where is it located? The car is under warranty BUT I would prefer not to take it to the Chevy dealer if at all possible. Many Thanks in advance. Ken.

This is the type of thing I would take back to either: the dealer, or a really good electrical mechanic with GM experieince. the car is under warranty, right?

Hi and thanks for the reply. The car is under warranty but if I could have fixed it myself I would prefer to but electrical problems are difficult. I'm not happy about taking the car back to a dealer and all the hassle this sometimes brings but it may be my only option due to the nature/complexity of the issue. Thanks again Lee! Ken.

RE: Service Active Handling.

I hope it isn't the wheel speed position sensor. This is an issue with the C5 and I would have hoped that GM would have addressed thisin the newer C6. If they haven't I guess it must be cheaper for them to address the few issues while vehicles are still under warranty as oppose to fixing the root cause.
