Why Is My Top Flying Off?!?!?!

Okay, I'm a new guy, not a young guy, and while this is my first C6 (less than 3 months), this is not my first Corvette. In fact, I currently own a 75 (since 90), and an 81 (in the family since 81, and my education), and now my 13 (since May). Before I picked this up, I used to drive a convertible all summer (Miata since 2012), and in Ca, that's a while. I have never in my life (and I've been driving Corvettes for 34 years, convertibles for 10) forgot to latch a top, so why now have I lost not one factory painted top, but 2?!?!?! WTH? Am I getting senile? Because I wasn't 2 months back when I was still driving a manual drop top, and I have less than 3k on this since I bought it.

It's not that I have to keep buying new tops, its not that I've had to do the walk of shame twice to pick my top up out of the road, risking my life to do it, its not any of that. Its because I've been lucky twice when my top has ejected itself that nobody was killed when it went skyward and came crashing back to Earth.

Is there something I'm doing wrong with the latches? Is there a problem with the factory painted tops? Or should I sell my 15k mile NRB coupe and just go back to convertibles (not going to happen)? But seriously, before somebody gets killed, please tell me what is wrong with me (and yeah, I know, can't fix stupid, but you can fix user error if that is the case), because I can't believe I got 2 defective tops for this car (2nd one was used and going to paint next week!).

Like I said guys, in 36 years I've never lost a T-Top, or a convertible top, so why now 2 targa tops with the C6?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

And sorry my first post to this forum is getting right down to business, but I'm baffled.

Welcome to the forum. If you still have one of the tops that flew off, I'd check the latching mechanism to see if it's functioning properly.

Thanks, but after careful deliberation on this, I have come to the conclusion that I am entirely at fault. Both times this happened I was distracted when putting the top back on, so unfortunately for me, I've got nothing else to blame it on. I did see a post on here while trying to find information on the latches, that a fellow member had gotten into the habit of latching the drivers side latch while still outside the car, and I have since taken up that habit myself. So, sorry to say, I'm a moron.
