ZR-1 Sets 'Ring Record!
 

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 was released to the public at the Detroit Auto Show, and there was to be no mistake made; this was a street legal race car. Many of the amenities of a modern luxury car packed into one of the most capable performance cars in the history of the automobile. In July of 2008, General Motors shipped a production ZR-1 to the Nürburgring in Germany to prove just how capable, and the new Corvette Supercar did not disappoint.

The Nissan GT-R stormed onto the scene after a LONG wait by enthusiasts in the US market, and with bloodlines traveling decades back into road racing history, it was no surprise to see the GT-R turn in a record time around “the ‘Ring”, finishing a lap around the 14+ mile track. However, GM engineers promised that Nissan record would not last very long, and when the new ZR-1 crossed the line, that promise became reality with the new Vette running a 7:26.4 second lap time.

This gives the ZR-1 the current record for production cars at the Nürburgring, but with high performance packages on the horizon for the Nissan GT-R, it will be interesting to see how GM responds should their record be compromised….but for now, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 can boast of being one of the fastest and quickest production cars sold in the world.
