Lost key

Senior moment - lost only key to my 1957 Corvette. Left ignition in the "off" position so I can drive the car but cannot lock it nor open the trunk. Should I go to a locksmith? Anyone else ever do something stupid like this? Even if you didn't - do you have a suggestion?
Thanks - Jack Farley jufarley@optonline.net Greenwich, CT.

Unless you can find the dealer who sold the car new and he should still have the records,he could give you the key code which you would take to a locksmith and he would cut you a key.
So,bottom line, you are going to see a locksmith. You might choose one out of the phone book, give him a call and go from there. I have,in the past, taken a lock out and took it to a locksmith and for less than $30 walked out with 2 keys. They will come to your home and solve your problem, but it will most certainly cost you more then $30!

Thanks. Easy enough to remove ignition switch and door lock to take to locksmith. But, how do I remove the trunk lock? Or, do I recall the door and trunk use the same key? I never lock the doors so I can't remember if '57 vette has same key for doors and trunk. Do you know?

Not positive, typically there were 2 keys, the ignition and everything else, doors, trunk glove box etc. Should be able to take in the ignition and another. I think the trunk lock is held in by a u-shaped springy-thingy and should be easier than a door lock although I am not at all familiar with the C-1's. I really want a 59,but I can't afford one on retired income!

The profession of a Locksmith Chiswick has also become specialized. It is common to see locksmiths who deal exclusively on domestic locks and keys, automobile locks. Many have become security consultants. There are various certification levels that a locksmith can acquire today depending on his levels of skills, areas of expertise and experience.

Most of the time, in order to repair a lock, Locksmith Loughton will simply replace parts of the lock with similar, or common parts. The fitting of keys to replace lost keys for homes and automobiles is one of the most common jobs locksmiths face.
