1979 Corvette Alternator Problem
Hey guys, newbie here. My name's Justin, I own a 1979 Corvette L48. So here's the problem: The other night I was driving around when the GEN light came on, so I did a few tests (battery, alternator) and the alternator appears to be giving out less than it should (about 11) so that isn't charging the battery. Anyone know if there's an easy fix to this or any other tests I should run? Or do I just have to replace the alternator?
Thanks! -- Justin |
Hey Justin, I'm no expert but I found that Alternators are pretty cheap, for a remanufactured it cost me $44 for my 1981, that's after a $10 rebate for the old core.
You should be able to get some numbers off your old one so you can match it, 63amp, 70amp,.... I'm thinking it's worth replacing it! Good luck. Encore |
Justin: Welcome to the forum.
Don't get a rebuilt alternator unless it comes with an unconditional lifetime replacement warranty and you enjoy replacing it frequently. |
