82 Crossfire, problem with stalling and revs jumping

I have recently replaced the Distributor and ever since the revs keep jumping, the car was doing this prior to replacing the distibutor, and keeps jerking and revs jump up nd down constatly and when idleing does the same and will some times cut out, does anyone have any suggestions on the problem.

I am in Atlanta and would like to find a mechanic that can take care of my car.
Thanks
Lester

hey Lester,
Rise and fall idle is usually caused by a streched timing chain, Have it checked and if thats your problem, I would use steel timing gears, or even better a double roller timing chain and gears.
Good luck

RE: 82 Crossfire, problem with stalling and revs jumping

Cross-fire idle problems can be caused by vacuum leaks. The plate on top of the intake that the throttle bodies sit on is notorious for sucking the gasket in. 2 ways to check it, get a piece of heater hose a couple of feet long and put one end to your ear and the other listen around the intake as this helps isolate where the leak might be. 2nd is to spray carb spray around the intake while engine is running and see if the engine idle changes while you spray. Also, you might check the throttle bore on the throttle body that has the idle control motor to see if the bore is dirty under the throttle plates as that too will make it hunt for an idle. Good Luck. [8D]
