C$ VATS and PKE
 

I purchased this 1996 and have been going thru things. Down to this. The door locks don't work, the fuse is good. The VATS key has been previously bypassed before I got it. The car starts and runs fine but don't know how they did it, I assume somewhere there was a resistor installed. It didn't come with a key fob although I have one now but am reluctant to program it to the car and see if it all works. So, in a perfect world Id like it all to work they way it is supposed to but I am not optimistic. It has been messed with and its over 20 years old. The security light flashes on the instrument panel. First, both door lock actuators DO work, I have had the door panels off and jumped them to see if they operate, they do. The switches are good and the wiring appears to be fine. Im sure somewhere there is a relay that I have no idea where it is. These don't typically go bad, so Im not concerned, yet. Oh brother, this is getting long... anyway, If the VATS is bypassed, isn't this telling the security system that the key is in the ignition all the time? Is the system designed to NOT lock the doors with the key in the ignition? Will the PKE even work if it senses the key in the ignition? This is why I am reluctant to program a key fob, I don't want to end up with the security system arming and then the car not starting or something keeping the alarm armed. Is the trade off for bypassing the VATS key... not having a working security system? Like I said, it would be cool if the system would still work, but having working door locks would be the minimum. Any help I would appreciate. Thanks
