C2 Electrical issue
Hi all,
I have 1966 L36 that I brought out from winter storage last week. All seemed fine Started right up, idled fine, drove fine on short (1mile) test run. Next day started out for longer run. About 4 miles out car died - all electrielectrical systems were inoperative. No radio/lights/ignition etc - all systems dead. After sitting for about 2 mins it started right up and all systems working.. Drove another 2 - 3 miles and same thing happened. After 2 minutes started up and headed for home. Died one more time before making it back. Battery fully charged. Visiblle connections ( battery, battery to gnd, battery to starter) tight and corrosion free. Starts and runs well at home, but have yet to drive it again. Not sure what would cause this behavior. Your input is appreciated |
Welcome to the forums. Sounds like what you are discribing is a thermal fuse that resets itself when it cools after a minute or two. Located most of the time on the firewall, two post terminal with two large red wires in an out. This is what GM used before the fuseable links, Could be the thermal breaker is week and going bad orit can't handle an excissive load. A/c, Power radio booster, or maybe a Short somewhere.

Thanks,
I think I've seen that. I will check it out or just replace it |
While you are in there it wouldn't hurt to clean all of battery cable connections,, especially the ground on the block. Do not put grease on it either.
