My New C6-- Please Help me with the 1 to 4 shift!

To my new friends--This is naive, but I keep getting the 1-4 shift message on my wonderful new monterry red C6/Z51/LT3 manual coupe now with 68 miles. Am I pushing the gas (speed or rpms) to soft in 1, or to hard? Please don't make me go to the awful reference manual for an answer.

Also, I can't find "3" on a consistent basis either--sometimes, I seem to end up in a dreaded gear blackhole. Is this my weakness, a C6/Z51 characteristic, or both?

While I may have your time, when can I stretch the rpms and speed (beyond 65-70 mph) safely? The dealer was no help here and seem to suggest no break-in period necessary.
I'm no expert, but common sense would suggest some break-in time just to properly seat and wear brand new mechanical items before stretching the performance.

Thanks!

The C6 is world class in my book.
