Oil Pressure Sensor Relocation Illustration
 

This was once available on the forum. I can't find it now that I need it! Any ideas where this can now be found? Thanks in advance.

I don't see a year on either of your vettes,but the gen 1's and gen 2's are the same. As far as I know. There are only 3 places for OP. One is on the top of the block right under the distributor,just a little toward the driver's side, another is in the side of the block just above the oil filter and the third is on the front of the block just about center above the timing cover. The third gives a reading after everything has used it's share so the reading will be low.don't try to get it up to 10 lbs per 1000 rpm,you'll wash the bearings out!

How much oil pressure do you see while idling when the engine is warm? 18lbs is on the low side right? What are the chances that a factory gauge just isnt reading accurately?

Memory is a horrible thing to lose,but for some reason mine has the number 12 pounds for minimum hot oil presssure for a chevy smallblock. !8 psi would be above that,but as you say is a little on the low side for a real good motor. If you use 10 psi per 1000 rpm,18 psi at idle is OK. If the oil is a good multi-grade and isn't diluted you are in a situation where watching the oil pressure seems to be in order. A high quality direct reading gauge would probably be a good investment?
