Rough Idle continued....

Hi! This will be my second post of what I thought was a problem solved but unfortunately my C5 is still having a problem. This link tells the begining of the story. https://www.corvetteforums.com/m_58968/tm.htm

Basically my "new to me" 04 coupe Mn6 w/ 16K mi is running lean (according to a local shop). I brought it in because of the rough idle I've been having. They put it on a diagnostic computer and they came up with that diagnosis. They weren't sure how to resolve this so they convinced me totry an"injection service" (clean the injectors with an additive) which did not do the trick.

A little back ground.....being new to Corvettes I was unware of what the inside of the stock engine compartment looked like. I found out just recently after talking to another Vette owner that I have a aftermarket air intake with a different MAF sensor, (from what I've readthe MAFappears to be from a Z06...it has no screen in it)The brand is "Vararam Air Intake System", this along with my Borla exhaust (I knew I had that) is all the after market upgrades that I know of at this time. Since I boughtthe carfrom a independant dealer and they didn't do the work there is no one I can contact about any other upgrades on my Vette...unless I can get the previous owners name.

The car is still in the shop and the mechanic wants to change out the MAF to see if this is the problem, after that he is talking about replacing the fuel filter. Now I don't mind fixing what needs to be fixed but they are trying to fix my Vette by trial and error at my expense.

Anyone have any ideas on which direction to head from hear? I've personally looked at the MAF and it looked extremely clean and no visible signs of damage...and besides, if it the MAF was the problem then I would think the DIC would pick it up and trigger a check engine light which I don't have.

Thanks in advance for any advice in this manner.

Nick.

RE: Rough Idle continued....

Okay! The mechanic is telling me that my MAF sensor is the problem....he replaced it with an after market one and said it "runs a whole lot better". My question is wouldn't my on board computer pick up this MAF sensor problem and trigger a "check engine" light?
They are also telling me that the MAF should have a screen on it, I know the my current, I'm assuming high performance, MAF sensor doesn't have one and from my research all high perfomance don't put them in order to get max aif flow across it.

Is there a way to check to see if the MAF is working as it should?
Does any of this make sense to you?

Right now I told them to put the old sensor back in, I'll pick up the car in a bit and check it out.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nick.

RE: Rough Idle continued....

Okay! I went ahead spent the $280.00 for a new AC Delco MAF sensor and installed it myself, although it seems to help just a bit I still have the rough idle. You can hear a miss every few seconds at rear of the car near the exhaust and you can seemovementon thetach.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Nick.
